The Medline Story: From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leader
In 1910, A.L. Mills founded the Northwest Garment Factory in Chicago, Illinois, beginning his journey into the world of medical supplies. He started by producing aprons for workers in the local stockyards, but soon his products found their way to a nearby hospital where a group of nuns were serving as seamstresses. The nuns approached A.L. and asked if he could make hospital garments, such as surgeons' gowns and nursing uniforms, so that they could focus more on caring for their patients. Eager to expand his business, A.L. agreed, and the company's direction shifted.
Nearly two decades later, A.L.'s son, Irving, took over the company. When World War II broke out, Irving added general medical supplies to the company's offerings, transforming the business once again. The company became known as the Mills Hospital Supply Company.
Today, Medline Industries, LP. is a fourth-generation, family-owned company and the largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies in the United States. The company is still proudly headquartered in the Chicagoland area, continuing the legacy started by A.L. Mills over a century ago.
Medline's story continues with its customers. You've likely encountered and used dozens of Medline products during your visits to hospitals, emergency rooms, urgent care clinics, or doctors' offices. The company's products, including gowns and scrubs, are found in thousands of care settings around the world. Now, Medline is excited to bring its expertise and high-quality products into the home setting, making healthcare better for you.
One such product is the Medline Adjustable Cane. This cane expands from 29 inches to 38 inches, using a push-button lock to secure the perfect fit for each user. Its lightweight aluminum design makes it portable yet sturdy enough to support up to 300 pounds. The cane features a comfortable, soft-foam grip and an offset handle, which helps reduce wrist strain. Additionally, a wrist strap prevents the cane from falling to the floor. The elegant design of the cane makes it suitable for everyday use or special events.
The cane's slip-resistant rubber tip helps reduce slipping on floors, sidewalks, and driveways. Users can also swap out the included tip with a compatible quad tip for increased stability and greater confidence with every stride. This offset cane can be particularly helpful for adults, seniors, or children who are recovering from an injury and need assistance with balance while walking.
Medline is the healthcare industry's most trusted provider of mobility and bath safety aids. In addition to the Adjustable Cane, the company offers thousands of other high-quality medical products to meet the diverse needs of its customers. Medline's commitment to excellence and innovation has made it the #1 choice in the healthcare industry.
